Date nights look a little different these days…The time we used to take for granted working on projects together is now what we enjoy doing most. 

Thankful for our community who support us so we can do what we love. ❤️
I’m losing money doing my own work. 

Here’s the thing, when we started this cabin renovation I had multiple people tell me to pay someone else to do the work. While it would have been a bigger financial investment up front, we would already be renting this property. I also would have been able to focus more on my business and earning a larger income. So in both senses I am losing money both in missed bookings and in opportunity cost of making more elsewhere.

This is why I don’t regret it: I recently listened to a podcast with Sahil Bloom and he talked about his book, the 5 Types of Wealth. He breaks it down as Time Wealth, Social Wealth, Mental Wealth, Physical Wealth, and Financial Wealth. If I’m being honest, the last 5 years I have put the majority of my time, thoughts, and focus on Financial Wealth. Sahil says we do this because it is the easiest one to measure. You can quantify it and compare it, so it becomes a game and our go to focus. 

This last year of working on the cabin with @_katiesayer_  has been the most rewarding thing I’ve done to date. It’s been a grind, and extremely hard work. But it has made me spread my focus to some of the other forms of wealth. 

For some reason, pulling stumps on a 1964 hunk of iron & cutting trees with my chainsaw have been some of the most peaceful and fulfilling moments in my life.
Can’t even finish a house before someone buys it🤷🏼‍♂️

Almost a year ago we started this cabin renovation with no idea that we would be blessed with a sweet baby boy within the year. 

This project started off strictly as an investment property, and as our baby grew so did our love for this cabin. Now that he is here, it makes me emotional thinking about all of the good times we will have with Jack at this place. 

While we will still be renting it out as a luxury couples retreat, I have a feeling we are going to be blocking off more and more days to make memories with our little family🥹

One of my favorite examples of a property with multi season appeal is a chalet at or near a ski resort. You get the best of both worlds, golfers in the summer, and skiers in the winter. Down seasons are extremely limited. 

If the area you want to buy a STR in isn’t near a ski resort then you will have to get creative. We LOVE the fact that @rise_retreat_tc is right on the snowmobile trails. It should be a huge advantage for us when it comes to off season bookings.
